Question about SEC vs. Pac-10

So I am watching Around the Horn today, and Bill Plaschke from the LA Times said two things that made me go "HUH?"

#1 If you put USC, Oregon, or UCLA in the SEC this year they would have hands down won the conference, undefeated. He said the top teams were down and the middle teams were making them pay.

#2 All the speed on offense has moved to the Pac-10.

My question is, do you guys agree with both of these comments? Am I blinded by an East Coast bias because I don't stay up until 1 or 2 AM watching USC vs. St. Mary Margaret's School for the Slightly Hunchbacked?

I just don't see all 3 of those teams going through either division of the SEC undefeated. All the teams in the SEC are so competitive that you have to play week in and week out. Look at Georgia, they lose their starting QB, then subsequently lose 2 games. If they didn't play in the SEC, would Shockley have gotten hurt? Would they have lost their next two games if their opponents were Stanford and Washington State instead of Auburn and Florida? Is it that the SEC is a better conference top to bottom than the Pac-10? I think yes. Is the best of the Pac-10 better than the best of the SEC?

Second, you look at teams like Miami, Texas, LSU, Florida, VTech, FSU. Do you mean to tell me that they don't have the speed of a Pac-10 team?

The Pac-10 is severely overrated. If USC played ANYONE other than Notre Dame in a whole season. If they picked a powerhouse like Miami or even Ohio State or Michigan to play, then I could understand the hype, but they don't, so I don't.

Pac 10 sucks in my opinion. Yeah they may have speed but that doesn't always result in football talent. Pac 10 is the worst overall major conference in my opinionw/ the Big East slightly better.

IMO the SEC is the hardest confrence in the NCAA today. Sure the pac-10 has some speed but if USC was in the SEC this year they would have won maybe 4-5 game. But we can sit here and talk about it all we want, it'll never happen

SC would have won the conference easily but I cant say the same about Oregon or UCLA.

The stats for these two conferences are so ass backwards that its impossible to compare.

USC has looked not so great on defense, but is it because they have played against the #3, #9, #10, #15, #16, and #21 offenses in america OR does the pac-10 have such bad defense that it makes these teams the #3,9,10,15,16, and 21st offenses in america.

Notre Dame was the #10 offense on that list. And while were at it, we can say that pac-10 offenses are pretty darn good regardless because they put up quite a few points on LSU as well.

With that being said(and I dont have the #s) but the SEC defenses look so good because they arent playing against Pac-10 offenses.

The way I see it, the pac-10 is underrated, the sec is overrated in direct comparision. USC is better than any team in the SEC, Oregon and Bama would be a good game, Arizona State-LSU was a good game, UCLA-Georgia would be a good game. Nobody can honestly say that the SEC is much or alot better than the Pac 10, it just doesnt hold water when the pac 10 has competed very well against the SEC this season.

The only conference in america that I can say is downright pathetic, its the b12, specifically the b12 north.

USC wouldn't have won the SEC confrence. Yes they do have a talented offense but I dont think they could win games with just their offense in the SEC. Their defense isn't that good so I'm still saying they would have about 5 wins in the SEC

My thing is the fact that USC is a finesse team. I don't think they have it in them to grind on a team and wear them down.

Plus, I think the grind of playing that style week to week would bring them down. Maybe not to only 5 wins, but definitely 1 loss.

But who knows, if USC was in the SEC, then the rest of the teams may have to adapt as well. It's really like comparing apples to oranges. I just have a hard time with Plaschke saying that 3 teams from the Pac-10 would go undefeated in the SEC.
